Unique Destinations for Shooting Adventures in Europe

Holly & Christian’s Top 3 Picks

You’ve probably seen many shooting activities within the big USA… but have you ever discovered shooting adventures within Europe?! We almost couldn’t believe it either! We knew that clay pigeon shooting is a very popular sport in places such as the UK, but we didn’t know how easy it was to blast some RPG’s without leaving the continent. Join us and embark on an adrenaline-fueled journey through Europe’s top rated shooting adventures, each promising a barrel of fun and a bang for your buck.

The history of guns in Europe is a rich and complex timeline that spans back centuries, evolving alongside the continent’s political, social and technological landscapes. The origins of firearms in Europe can be traced back to the Middle Ages, with the emergence of early gunpowder weapons such as the hand cannon and arquebus.

During the Renaissance period, European nations invested heavily in the development and refinement of firearms technology. Innovations such as the musket and flintlock mechanism emerged, making firearms more reliable, accurate, and easier to use.

The industrial revolution of the 18th and 19th centuries further accelerated the evolution of firearms in Europe. The introduction of mass production techniques led to the widespread availability of guns and ammunition, fuelling the expansion of European empires and shaping global geopolitics.

From the Napoleonic Wars to the two world wars of the 20th century, firearms played a central role in shaping the course of European history, leaving an indelible mark on the continent and its people. Today, Europe stands at the forefront of firearm regulation and technology, reflecting both its turbulent past and its commitment to peace and security in the modern era.

For many countries in Europe, owning and shooting firearms is generally more regulated and restricted compared to other countries such as the United States. European countries often enforce stringent gun control measures, requiring individuals to undergo extensive background checks, obtain licenses and adhere to strict storage and usage guidelines. Unlike the USA, where gun ownership is enshrined in the Constitution and access to firearms is relatively easier, many European countries maintain a more cautious approach towards gun ownership. Specifically, in Spain, while gun ownership for hunting and sport shooting is permitted, the process is complex and tightly regulated. As a result, we have found it increasingly difficult and more challenging to find shooting activities – but not impossible…

Bratislava’s Bullseye Bonanza

Nestled along the Danube River, Bratislava boasts an enchanting blend of historical charm and modern allure. With its panoramic views and welcoming atmosphere, Bratislava promises an unforgettable shooting adventure in the heart of Europe. We didn’t know that this city is also home to a WWII underground shooting bunker! Situated beneath the city streets, the bunker served as a crucial defensive stronghold against enemy attacks. Today, the bunker is equipped with authentic artifacts, displays and interactive exhibits.

One of the most thrilling aspects of the bunker experience is that you can shoot very real firearms inside! Visitors can step into the shoes of soldiers and resistance fighters, testing your skills within its confines. We chose a mixed shooting package with 1 Rifle & 5 Handguns to get a feel for different weapons with Bratislava Shooting Club. The guns we shot were;

CZ Scorpion EVO3

A modern Czech submachine gun used by armies and law enforcement with calibre 9mm Luger.

A semi-automatic pistol designed in 1948, which used to be the side arm of Soviet officers for most of the Cold War.

Skorpion vz. 61

A UZI-style submachine gun in semi-automatic mode, this firearm developed a reputation as a terrorist weapon in the West during the Cold War.

Ruger GP 100 Model 1704

This double action .357 Magnum revolver can be seen in the popular movie Tango & Cash.

Glock 17 Pistol

A worldwide popular law enforcement pistol with calibre 9mm Luger.

Grand Power P45

With legendary calibre .45 ACP which gives stronger recoil than the 9mm pistol.

We booked everything online prior to arriving in Bratislava and everything was seamless. Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, is not just about stunning architecture and rich culture—it’s also a haven for shooting enthusiasts. From precision shooting to tactical challenges, this city offers an excellent range of experiences to satisfy every adventurer’s quest for excitement.

Budapest’s Blast-off

Budapest, the gem of Hungary! This City’s history dates back to Roman times, offering even more than architectural marvels and stunning thermal baths. Its tumultuous past, marked by invasions and revolutions, adds many layers to Budapest’s allure. As you delve into the city’s narrative, you will discover a dynamic blend of cultures along the banks of the same Danube River shared with Bratislava.

Just 15 kilometres south of the city centre lies an adrenaline-inducing attraction for all shooting enthusiasts: Celeritas Shooting Range. This facility provides a thrilling opportunity to engage in shooting adventures in Europe’s heartland. Surrounded by Hungary’s captivating countryside, Celeritas offers an exhilarating escape from the bustle of the city.

One of the best attractions with this shooting range is the incredibly broad selection of guns available and the possibility to add single options onto each package. We did their PUBG package for example and added on two extras –

The IMI Desert Eagle Mk I .357 Magnum is included in the PUBG package and Christian added 1 shot on from an IMI Desert Eagle Mk VII .50 Action Express. Check out the cartridge difference!

Holy moly we shot an RPG… MORE THAN ONCE! The warhead is a training device with a rifled barrel and it fires a non-explosive, traditional 7.62mm inert rifle projectile, which has similar trajectory to the real grenade. I didn’t know this activity should have been on any adrenaline bucket list until we ticked it off ours!

Budapest’s shooting range offers an adrenaline rush like no other, making it an unforgettable experience in your European adventure.

North Yorkshire’s Clay Pigeon Shootout

Venturing beyond the continental charm, we turn our European shootout to the rolling hills and beautiful countryside of North Yorkshire, England. Here, amidst the serene beauty, lies a clay pigeon shooting experience like no other. With shotguns in hand, we took aim at the only moving targets option on this list and were not disappointed. The adrenaline-fueled thrill of hitting clay pigeons against the backdrop of Yorkshire’s natural beauty was an experience we’ll not soon forget.

We are more than happy to introduce Thimbleby Shooting Ground, which we think stands as a premier destination for shooting adventures in Europe.
