Isla de Tabarca

Isla de Tabarca: Paradise Awaits from Alicante Port

Are you craving an adventurous escape from Alicante’s bustling port? Look no further than Isla de Tabarca, a hidden gem waiting to be explored! In this guide, we’ll unravel the ease of getting to this picturesque island, its enchanting attractions, and an optional snorkelling excursion that promises aquatic wonders.

Memories Unlocked

Christian and I recently travelled to the UK for a family wedding and, on the flight returning home, we flew over Tarbaca Island (or Isla de Tabarca) before reaching Alicante Airport. We reminisced on our great trip to the island, exploring hidden streets with phenomenal viewpoints, and thought it’s about time we recommended it!

I distinctly remember this as a very HOT trip – sadly not in the way you might have first imagined – as I’d mis-judged how warm Septembers in Spain can be and after a misleading cooler week, I decided Summer was over and it was time for me to wear jeans again. This was a mistake and not one I’d recommend!

Embarking on the Island Adventure

Getting to Isla de Tabarca is very easy, with ports arranging transfers including Santa Pola, Alicante, Guardamar, Benidorm and Torrevieja. We parked next to the port for the day and chose Alicante port for our departure. Regular ferry services make the journey seamless, offering a scenic route that sets the tone for your island retreat. The ferry ride itself becomes an integral part of the adventure, providing stunning views of the Mediterranean and lasts around 1 hour.

Exploring Isla de Tabarca

Upon reaching the island, you’re greeted by a charming blend of history and nature. Wander through the narrow streets, steeped in maritime heritage. Don’t miss the chance to explore the historic fortifications and the quaint church, transporting you back in time.

The island offers various trails for those seeking a touch of nature. Hike along the coastal paths, revelling in the panoramic vistas of the crystal-clear waters and rugged landscapes. Isla de Tabarca is a paradise for nature enthusiasts, with its diverse flora and fauna adding to its allure.

For our arrival, we sat at the first restaurant with available seating Rincón de Ramos which is most definitely not recommended. We fell into the tourist trap and paid above for below quality. Later, after we had explored more, we found La Pecera Tabarca and it was much better.

Adventurers seeking a unique culinary experience in Tabarca should definitely make a beeline for La Pecera restaurant. Nestled in this charming island, La Pecera not only offers a picturesque seaside setting but also gets taste buds going with its delectable seafood offerings. With a menu boasting the freshest catches of the day and a cosy ambiance that complements the island’s tranquillity, La Pecera promises a delightful dining experience that perfectly complements the thrill of exploration on Tabarca Island.

Snorkelling Excursion

For the water enthusiasts, a snorkelling excursion is a must. The island’s vibrant marine life is renowned. Join a guided snorkelling tour to witness the underwater beauty, from colourful fish to thriving marine ecosystems. It’s an opportunity to create memories beneath the surface of the Mediterranean, perfect for avid snorkelers.
